Jesse Alexander, showrunner of the forthcoming NBC post-apocalyptic drama Day One, on how world-building for D&D applies to world-building for a TV series:
“As I’ve been building Day One, I kind of think of it like I’m creating a D&D campaign […]. I feel like I’m designing a campaign, a ruleset, a world, and modules, and then my writing staff, or my partners in the publishing space or online are really the players.”

Awesome.
I remember trying to draw the parallel between creating a campaign and creating a TV once or twice in film school applications and in person to instructors, and receiving a lot of blank stares in return. I totally buy the connection totally, but I think it seems like wishful thinking coming from the gamer rather than the showrunner. Also, I think most of the people I was talking to had not the foggiest idea what kind of games I was talking about.
